As a long-time fan of all things Star Trek, I'm skeptical about the upcoming movie. It's a prequel, but it's not; more on that shortly. Two of the lead roles are being played by Chris Pine (Kirk) and Zachary Quinto (Spock), with Dr. McCoy apparently absent. Given that the chemistry between the three leads was a big part of what made Star Trek: TOS successful, having others play their characters and eliminating another just doesn't work.
Star Trek fans come from many different generations. TOS was never a favorite of mine, but I Loved every movie. My favorites have always been Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager. Later, I grew to adore Star Trek: Enterprise. Still, others were fans of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Considering the sheer number of decades that span the Star Trek universe, it's not surprising that we would all have different favorites.
But J.J. Abrams has boldly taken Star Trek in the wrong direction.

Remake Watch Review: The Star Trek Reboot had a lot of energy, a fun cast, and a slick look. Unfortunately characters left something to be desired, and the new additions to the plot were not great compared with the parts inspired by the original series.
