And Soon The Darkness (2010)

Proving that the back catalogue of ’70s horror will never be so deep that it can’t be plumbed by those seeking remake material, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Studio Canal and Abandon Pictures are producing an update of 1970’s British chiller AND SOON THE DARKNESS. The original was directed by Robert Fuest shortly before he made his more celebrated DR. PHIBES films.

In Fuest’s movie (pictured; see the trailer below), two young British nurses are on a bicycling trip through a rural area of France when one disappears, and the other, desperate to find her, begins to fear that her friend has been murdered, and she’s next. The new film relocates the action to Argentina and features a pair of American heroines, to be played by Amber Heard and Odette Yustman. Commercials director Marcos Efron makes his feature debut on the movie, on which Heard will also serve as a co-producer. The actress has a pretty full genre dance card, as she’s awaiting the theatrical release of her festival breakout success ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE, with Columbia’s now-rolling ZOMBIELAND (in which she’ll cameo) due out October 9 and Screen Gems’ THE STEPFATHER due October 16; she’s also attached to topline John Carpenter’s upcoming THE WARD. Yustman is also becoming a familiar horror face, having co-starred in CLOVERFIELD and portrayed the heroine of this year’s THE UNBORN.
