Mickey Rourke is certainly making the most of his comeback success thanks to The Wrestler as he has lined up project after project including a villainous role in next summer's blockbuster sequel Iron Man 2. His latest role comes by way of Variety announcing he will star in a remake of the 1986 Neil Jordan-directed Brit gangster flick Mona Lisa.
The original film starred Bob Hoskins as George, a small-time loser employed as a chauffeur to an enigmatic, high-class call girl. His fascination with her leads him on a dangerous quest through the sordid underbelly of London, where love is a weakness to be exploited and betrayed. Hoskins earned an Oscar nomination for his performance and the film put Jordan on the map as director and screenwriter.
Rourke will be playing the Hoskins role with Casino Royale Bond girl Eva Green in advanced negotiations to star opposite him as the high-class escort, a role that was played by Cathy Tyson in the original.
Larry Clark wrote and will direct the film, which is set to begin filming in New York in July.
